Dr. Ludmil B. Alexandrov is a distinguished scientist renowned for his pioneering work in computational biology and cancer genomics. He serves as a Professor at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), holding joint appointments in the Department of Bioengineering and the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. ​

Dr. Alexandrov’s research focuses on deciphering the complex mutational processes that drive cancer initiation and progression. He is particularly acclaimed for developing the concept of mutational signatures, which has significantly enhanced the understanding of cancer’s molecular underpinnings. His work aims to leverage large-scale omics datasets to identify novel cancer prevention strategies and engineer innovative approaches for targeted treatment. ​

Throughout his career, Dr. Alexandrov has received numerous accolades, including the Carcinogenesis Young Investigator Award from Oxford University Press in 2016, the Science magazine’s Prize for Young Scientists in Genomics and Proteomics in 2015, and the Harold M.
